Brad & Deidre & Marina… and tiny Connor

I love the tender moments of family life. The quiet times when the bond with a child is the center of the entire universe. These are the moments that I’m sure a parent wishes to keep forever, to stop the world, keep them tiny and in your arms. But I think there’s another side too. When I was a teenager and deep in the worst ridiculous feuds with my mom, I found a photo of her with me that I didn’t remember seeing before. I was just a tiny baby and she was laying on their big master bed playing with me. Something about that picture made me get it. It made me understand that the woman who I thought didn’t understand me or teenagers at all, had made me the center of her world from the moment I was born.

We think about portraits of babies and kids as something for the parents. A way to hold on to these moments. I think they actually mean more for the kids. Tiny Connor and his big sister Marina won’t remember these moments when they grow up. The moments captured in the photos will become their memories. Marina will see the love in her father’s eyes as he played and read with her. Connor will see his mother’s pure joy at their beautiful new baby boy.

This is why photos are so precious. And I can’t believe I get to do this every day. Thank you so much for inviting me in!
